Sculpture Exposé
Thanks to Stuart Blower Photography for these photo of this year’s event:
The Sculpture Exposé gives you the opportunity of seeing how sculptors make their art, and check on their progress as they carve sculptures in a public park over a two-week period. Three Uxbridge sculptors (Fly Freeman, Francis Muscat and Wynn Walters) will be working in different media, which may include wood, stone and concrete and glass. This is primarily a demonstration project, aimed at groups or individuals, to let them learn and observe how sculptors turn tree trunks or blocks of stone into works of art. The sculptors will be glad to chat with those who come by, demonstrating their tools and techniques. This public carving event will be the third in a series of Sculpture Symposia held in Uxbridge. The first two produced large sculptures that have been installed around the community. The sculptures resulting from this year’s Sculpture Exposé will be the first installations along the new First Leaside Sculpture Trail, which will start at the First Leaside Building when it is completed in late 2012, and wind through to connect with the South Balsam Trail. Eventually, it is planned to have many more sculptures along the trail. The new Sculpture Trail is sponsored by the First Leaside Corporation.
